Sports Nutrition and Supplementation

Whether you’re a weekend warrior, an average gym-goer, or a professional athlete, you’ve probably experienced first-hand the benefits of proper nutrition on your physical and mental performance. All competitive and non-competitive athletes benefit tremendously by meeting their fluid, energy, and nutrient needs. And, when you add scientific-based sports nutrition to the performance-enhancing equation, athletes can surpass the benefits of an already sound dietary regimen; pushing their bodies to do more in a shorter period of time.

However, this is not to say that the sports supplement market isn’t without controversy or confusion. This industry has been plagued with bad press and misinformation. Additionally, hundreds of products are marketed each year and many are riddled with inconsistencies. It’s not easy to keep up with the latest supplements that promise to make you a better competitor in and out of the gym. Developing an understanding of all the many sports nutrition can be an overwhelming and daunting task.

That being said, there are a few questions athletes usually grapple with when shopping for supplements:
  • What supplements do I need to take?
  • What does it do?
  • How effective is it?
  • Do I really need it?
  • Is it safe?

People shell out big bucks for the guidance of a Nutritionist, Personal Trainer, or Dietitian, to provide answers to these questions. The truth is there is no single answer for each person, or each supplement for that matter. People engage in different activities and are as unique as the sports they play.

However, there are a group of “core” supplements that are universally accepted as being 'effective.' We’ll review these “core” supplements and hopefully you’ll find what you need for building a better your body, while eliminating the products you don’t need. So, before you set out to hire a local specialist, take a look at the following products. You may just boost your performance and save yourself some hard earned cash.
